Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords will be in Chester County on Friday to stump for Chrissy Houlahan and discuss gun violence in the area.

Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords will be in Chester County on Friday to campaign for 6th District candidate for Congress, Chrissy Houlahan, and to discuss gun violence in the area.

The round table style discussion will take place at New Life in Christ Fellowship in Coatesville.

The event is part of Giffords' Veterans Tour, a nationwide journey organized alongside the veterans advocacy organization VoteVets. Giffords, along with her husband and former astronaut Capt. Mark Kelly, aim to "call attention to the gun violence crisis while urging voters to help elect safety champions to Congress."

The Democrat Houlahan is battling Republican Greg McCauley to take over the 6th District from Republican Ryan Costello, who is stepping aside. The newly redrawn district now includes the city of Reading, a Democratic stronghold, and has been labeled "likely Democratic" by RealClearPolitics.

Giffords, 48, was shot in 2011 during an attempted assassination attempt and mass shooting in Arizona. Eighteen victims were shot, and six of them were killed.
